Search the Henderson County Inmate Population

The Henderson County inmate population is centered on the county detention center, with state, federal, and immigration custody handled through separate systems. A Henderson County inmate search may start with the sheriff's app, the Citizen Connect jail roster, or a direct call to the jail when online results lag. The Henderson County inmate population also includes capacity and trend data that show how local booking, bond, classification, and court movement affect who is held in North Carolina custody.

Henderson County Inmate Population

Official county and sheriff sources identify one local jail facility for the Henderson County inmate population: the Henderson County Detention Center. It is operated by the Henderson County Sheriff's Office and holds pretrial detainees, people serving local sentences, and people arrested by Henderson County Sheriff's Office, Hendersonville Police Department, Laurel Park Police Department, Fletcher Police Department, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, and other agencies. The detention center is the local custody point. It is not the state prison system, a federal prison, or an immigration detention center.

The best population picture comes from two source types. The sheriff's detention-center page gives current facility facts, including bed count, housing units, and the building's role. The county's 2021 Detention Center Space Needs Assessment gives historical admissions, average daily population, average length of stay, and projected bed needs. No official static source captured a live daily count during research, so current custody should be checked through the sheriff's app, Citizen Connect, or the jail information line.

Henderson County Population Statistics

The Henderson County Detention Center page states that the local jail has 222 beds in five housing units and opened in 2001. The 2021 county space-needs study reported a 2019 average daily population of 190 and a 2020 average daily population of 161 through November. The 2020 number came during COVID-era policy changes, so the study treated that year as a one-time disruption instead of a normal demand level.

Henderson County Jail Capacity

The detention center's rated capacity is 222 beds, but the 2021 study projected more beds would be required to manage classification, peak population, and maintenance needs. It used an ADP-to-beds multiplier that combined a 9.4% peaking factor, a 12% classification factor, and a 5% maintenance factor. With those factors, the study projected 236 beds required in 2021, 260 in 2025, 288 in 2030, and 402 in 2050.

Capacity is not just a head count. North Carolina jail rules require classification procedures that consider medical care, supervision needs, escape-security level, and other sheriff criteria. The Henderson study tied those rules to real bed pressure, including female housing, protective custody, disciplinary confinement, medical and mental-health housing, and special-watch categories. It also noted that the original design had no single-occupancy cells, which made separation harder as the population approached capacity.

Population note: A current roster count may be lower than rated capacity while the jail still has housing limits caused by classification and medical needs.

Henderson County Jail Laws

North Carolina law shapes what can be released and how local jails operate. The key public-access law is G.S. 132-1, which defines public records broadly and covers records made or received by public agencies in the course of public business. Copy fees and limits on creating records that do not already exist are handled by G.S. 132-6.2.

Key rules:

Chapter 153A, Article 10 authorizes county confinement facilities and sets the local-jail framework.

10A NCAC 14J contains jail standards for classification, supervision, monthly reports, and death reports.

North Carolina death-in-custody reporting explains reporting duties for deaths in local jails, prisons, and during arrest.

These rules do not mean every jail record detail is public in every situation. Law-enforcement records can involve exemptions, redactions, security limits, or separate court restrictions. Henderson County jail custody and booking records begin with the sheriff. Formal case records and dispositions belong to the North Carolina Judicial Branch and Clerk of Superior Court. State prison records belong to NCDAC, and federal or immigration custody follows federal systems.

Henderson County Roster Fields

Citizen Connect is useful because it exposes the way HCSO organizes jail data, even when a full loaded inmate profile is not visible in static HTML. The public web interface is organized around confinement status, admissions by date, charge filters, and arresting agency. It also has a Daily Report page with a Bookings tab and a notice that incident and accident reports may take up to 72 hours after filing.

Henderson County Inmate Records

The accessible public web material did not confirm a complete Henderson County inmate profile with mugshot, bond, housing unit, booking number, or court-date fields. Accurate public copy must stay conservative. Verified public categories include current confinements, admits by date range, charge filtering, arresting-agency filtering, Daily Report bookings, and report-lag notices. Court dates and formal charges should be checked through NC eCourts rather than inferred from a jail booking line.

Henderson County Lookup Fallbacks

When the app or Citizen Connect does not show a person, the next step is the jail information line. The Detention Center can be reached at 828-694-3091. Routine incident reports are handled through the Sheriff's Office Records Division at 100 North Grove Street, with the research noting no charge for incident-report copies and a records contact of 828-694-3128. Public-information or FOIA requests submitted to HCSO are overseen by the Public Information Officer, Stephanie Barbosa, at sbarbosa@hendersoncountync.gov.

State, federal, and immigration custody are separate. The NCDAC Offender Public Information Search covers North Carolina state prison offenders, probationers, parolees, and historical information back to 1972, but NCDAC says it does not include county jail information. The BOP inmate locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is used for immigration custody, not local jail charge details. North Carolina VINELink / NC SAVAN provides custody notifications.

Henderson County Court Path

Jail custody and court records split after arrest. A person may be booked into the Henderson County Detention Center, appear in the roster or Daily Report, and then have formal court charges filed in the North Carolina Judicial Branch system. The detention center is next to the courthouse area, and the sheriff states the building allows inmates to be transferred directly to the Henderson County Courthouse without leaving the structure. That physical link is local, but the records are still separate.

For formal charges, search NC eCourts or contact the Henderson County Clerk of Superior Court. The courthouse is at 200 N Grove St, Suite 163, Hendersonville, NC 28792, with the main clerk number 828-694-4100. Prosecutorial District 42 covers Henderson County, and the District Attorney contact listed by the court directory is 828-694-4200. Booking charges are not the same as conviction, and filed charges may be amended, dismissed, reduced, or superseded.

Henderson County Detention Facilities

The official facility map is simple. Henderson County has one local detention facility identified in the official research, and no separate county work-release annex, municipal jail, regional jail, state prison, BOP prison, or ICE detention center was located inside the county. People arrested by Hendersonville, Laurel Park, or Fletcher police are routed to the county detention center rather than to a separate city jail page.

Henderson County Jail Services

After custody is confirmed, most family questions move to visitation, mail, calls, money, and records. Public visits are video-based through NCIC. Remote video visits cost $0.30 per minute. Onsite video visits are listed as free and must be scheduled 24 hours in advance, with one 15-minute onsite visit per week stated on the sheriff's visitation page. The same page still includes a COVID-era onsite-cancellation line, so availability should be confirmed with the detention center or NCIC before travel.

Directions to the Henderson County Jail

The Henderson County Detention Center is at 375 First Avenue East in Hendersonville, directly behind the Sheriff's Office building and near the Henderson County Courthouse. County Law Enforcement Center directions route drivers from I-26 Exit 49B onto U.S. Highway 64 west into downtown Hendersonville, then toward North Main Street and the Sheriff's Administration Building between 2nd and 3rd Avenues East.

Use the First Avenue East address for the detention-center entrance. The sheriff's administrative address at 100 North Grove Street is close by but is not the inmate-mail address. The courthouse at 200 N Grove Street is also nearby, and the jail's secure transfer path means inmate court movement happens through controlled building space rather than a public sidewalk route.
